Safeguarding
Psyon Chess runs junior clubs, after-school clubs in primary schools, and tournaments that under-18s enter. The safety and welfare of those children is paramount, above everything else the organisation does.
Who to contact
The club also appoints a deputy safeguarding lead. That post is currently vacant.
Checks and training
All coaches at Psyon Chess hold an enhanced DBS certificate and safeguarding training. Any new coach must obtain both before taking part in any event involving children.
Safeguarding and the ECF
The ECF is the governing body for chess in England and sets the standards its affiliated clubs, organisers and arbiters work to. Psyon Chess Club adopts, and expects all members to conduct themselves in accordance with, the following English Chess Federation policies and guidelines:
Photography
Photographs of players may be taken by the organiser or official photographer at any time during a Psyon Chess event, and they form part of the photo gallery. Photographs taken at an event may be used for publicity purposes by the organiser. Any objection to being photographed should be notified to the event organiser in writing before the event. By taking part in a Psyon Chess event, players and parents acknowledge and agree to these conditions.
Photographs that identify children are only published with the consent of a parent or guardian. If a photograph of your child appears on this site and you would like it removed, please email satish@chess-uk.com and it will be taken down.
Raising a concern
If you have a safeguarding concern about a child’s safety at a Psyon Chess club, session or event, please raise it with the Designated Safeguarding Lead at satish@chess-uk.com.
If a child is at immediate risk of harm, dial 999 and contact the police straight away. Alternatively you can seek advice by calling the NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000, or contact the ECF’s safeguarding officer directly at safeguarding.officer@englishchess.org.uk, independently of Psyon Chess.
